As the name implies, this tour will challenge you. The pinnacle and glorious center-piece of this hiking tour is the summit of Hvannadalshnúkur, the very highest peak in Iceland at 2110 m (6923 ft). You will be rewarded with the most stupendous sense of satisfaction, and on a clear day, absolutely magnificent scenery in all directions.
We will warm up for the climb with a glacier hike on a Vatnajökull outlet glacier with a specialist glacier guide. Vatnajökull is Europe's largest glacier in volume. We will learn all about the extraordinary forces which have shaped this majestic outlet glacier of the mighty Vatnajökull. See moulins, sharp-toothed ice ridges and the labyrinths of dramatic crevasses which riddle their way through this vibrant, moving and living glacier. Understanding the power of a great glacier and feeling the peace within this white wonderland is something no one ever forgets.
You will also see the best of the sights and natural wonders along the south coast, including the stunning black beach at Reynisfjara, where the powerful Atlantic waves crash their way onto the land; Skógafoss waterfall; Seljalandsfoss, the unique waterfall where can walk behind the cascade; the little town of Vík with the stunning church perched high on the hill; and also view Sólheimajökull glacier.
Hike from Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park to Svartifoss, a picturesque waterfall framed by stunning black basalt columns. Visit Jökulsárlón Glacial lagoon, one of the most phenomenal natural wonders in the world. See the deep glacial lake filled with incredibly shaped and often extremely large icebergs, take a walk to the Diamond Beach where these glossy Arctic beauties often come to rest on the black volcanic beach. We highly recommend that you book an optional boat trip on the lagoon (*extra fee payable when booking). Sailing between the icebergs with the enormous icecap of Vatnajökull glacier towering above you is awe-inspiring and humbling. A not to be missed experience.

You meet us at your chosen pick up point in Reykjavík, we introduce ourselves, safely stow the bags and then we are away. We travel through fertile farmlands and over the Hellisheiði pass on the way to Seljalandsfoss, an elegant waterfall, which is very unusual because you can walk behind the cascade, giving unique views and photo possibilities. We also visit Skógafoss, a really spectacular waterfall, dropping from the former sea-cliffs, amazing scenery will be all around you. Also on the agenda is Reynisfjara beach, stand well back and watch the fierce white-tipped Atlantic waves crashing onto the black volcanic beach! A stop is made at the southernmost settlement in Iceland, Vík í Mýrdal, its church standing like a beacon above the little town. We will also view Sólheimajökull glacier, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. Accommodation for the night will be at a country hotel by Skaftafell.
On this day of glacial wonders, you will visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on the edge of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull. The glacier lagoon is literally filled with icebergs of all shapes and sizes which calve off the glacier. You will be surprised at the deep blue shades which show in these amazing natural ice sculptures. They are an otherworldly sight as they slowly make their way through the lagoon to the salty Atlantic waves at the Diamond Beach. Some come to rest on the black volcanic sand where they glitter like diamonds. We strongly recommend the optional boat trip on the lagoon, sailing between the icebergs is a never to be forgotten experience (*extra fee payable when booking).
