Tour Description

Landmannalaugar, with the active volcano Hekla in its neighborhood, is one of Iceland's most unique destinations and a must for all those who love to explore the great outdoors. This is one of the most active geothermal areas flanked by rhyolite mountains and steaming hot springs offering plenty of activities and hiking trails. A multicolored mixture of black lava, green moss, red iron, blue & green mountains of ryolite and sulphur and much more forms a perfect setting for a great day of hiking.

You will be picked up in Reykjavik by a 4*4 highland bus and from there we head south. As we arrive in Landmannalaugar, we lace up our hiking boots and set off on a 4-hour hike (approx. 9 km) through the strangely sprawling lava fields of Laugahraun, Vondugil canyon and up to the summit of the most colorful mountain of Brennisteinsalda, with its steaming vents and sulfur deposits. Then continuing down through Graenagil canyon, which got carved as a result of the geodynamic activity of mountains, volcanoes and glacial rivers. If time and weather conditions allow we will climb Blahnukur, an approximately 60.000 years old volcano with a panoramic view of the Landmannalaugar Valley.

Elevation gain is about 4-500 m going to about 890 m above sea level. Before our journey ends we will culminate with a relaxing soak in a natural hot spring, where both hot and cold water flows out from beneath Laugahraun mixing together and forming the ideal hot bath. Remember to bring your swimwear and towel to enjoy bathing in the natural hot spring while enjoying the amazing surroundings.

Truly an experience you won't want to miss out on!

"1 day hike in Landmannalaugur"

I was doing the hike with two teenagers and we all loved it. I have never seen such scenery. The colors are amazing. Nice little group and a great guide that new lots of interesting things about the geology in the area, but never spoke more than for us to enjoy the silence and greatness. The hike was mostly easy and a few times moderate. The trip takes you to the highlands in a comfortable bus and allows you to get closer to the spectacular nature in a way that the Golden circle doesn't. There...
