On this trip, you will enjoy three of our best day hikes and travel the famous Golden Circle Route while still having the benefit of spending the night at your accommodation in the capital. Each day, we will pick you up in Reykjavík and take you out to some of Iceland’s best natural wonders.
Each evening, we bring you back to the capital and drop you off near your hotel or guesthouse. This is a carefully selected hiker’s package that contains one challenging, one moderate, and one easy hike along with a relaxing sightseeing minibus tour. On three of the four days, you will have the chance to bathe in natural geothermal pools, hot springs, and hot rivers!
We will start with our famous Reykjadalur Hiking Tour through Reykjadalur Valley near the town of Hveragerði in South Iceland. This easy hike begins only 40 minutes away from Reykjavík and offers a rare secluded look at every type of hot spring Iceland has to offer. The hike may be short and easy but is beautifully panoramic. In good weather, you will see all the way to the ocean and the surrounding smoky mountains. After about an hour of hiking, we will stop at the end of the valley where there is a naturally hot river. You will have time to enjoy the warm water and admire the surrounding landscapes before hiking back by the same route. This short but breathtaking trail will surely blow your mind!
On the second day, we will take a Superjeep and enter the Highlands area. The stunning glacier valley of the thunder god Thor (Þórsmörk) will give you the most unforgettable hiking experience while you climb up to the freshly formed craters, Magni and Modi, in the area where the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted in 2010. The views over the green valley all the way up and down are absolutely breathtaking. In good weather, you will be able to see for hundreds of kilometers all around the Highlands. Many who have hiked here claim that it is the most beautiful natural scenery that they have ever seen. We could not agree more!
After the challenging hike and the 12-hour tour, on the next day, we will take it easy with a minibus tour around Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route, the Golden Circle. We will visit the absolute must-see locations: the UNESCO site Thingvellir National Park, where the tectonic plates drift apart; the majestic Gullfoss waterfall; and the famous Geysir Geothermal Area, where we will see a geyser that erupts frequently. In addition, we will visit the geothermal village of Fludir where we will take a relaxing bath in the Secret Lagoon, one of Iceland’s oldest geothermal pools.
On the last day, we will go to Landmannalaugar, the colorful geothermal oasis deep in the Icelandic Highlands, for a Superjeep and hiking adventure. We will visit breathtaking spots along the way and hike through unbelievably colorful rhyolite mountains. We will climb up the most impressive colorful peaks, Brennisteinsalda and Bláhnúkur. After the hike, you will have the chance to take a dip in a natural hot spring, one of the most characteristic Icelandic hot springs.
Don’t forget to bring a towel and bathing suit. Join us on this ultimate hiker’s dream tour!
Reykjadalur hike and bathing in the hot river
We will start with our famous Reykjadalur Hiking Tour in Reykjadalur Valley near the town of Hveragerði in South Iceland. Heading in an easterly direction, we will drive by the Hengill mountain range where we will pass by the world’s second largest geothermal power plant. It supplies the entire capital area with warm water and electricity.
The hike itself starts a few kilometers from Hveragerdi. The trail is short and easy, but can be tougher in winter or in difficult weather conditions, of course. The trail offers beautiful panoramas along the way and a rare secluded look at every type of hot spring Iceland has to offer.
We will walk into a geothermally active zone where bubbling hot springs, mud pots, sulfur springs, and steaming ground will surround us. After an hour’s hike, we will see the geothermal river ahead. As the hot springs mix with the clear mountain springs, it creates the perfect water temperature that is ideal for bathing. There will probably be many other hikers there, enjoying the warm water.
We will have time to enjoy the warm water and to admire the surrounding landscape before hiking back over the same route. Combining a refreshing hike and a relaxing natural bath with the breathtaking view will surely blow your mind!
- Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate
- Duration: 5-7 hours
- Pick up & drop off: 08:00, returning in the afternoon
Thorsmork Volcano Hike
On the second day, we will pick you up in Reykjavík and take you on a Superjeep ride into the Highlands. We will stop at the stunning Seljalandsfoss Waterfall on the way and you will have the opportunity to walk behind the majestic 60-meter (196 foot) high waterfall. Then, we will leave the paved road and head towards the stunning glacier valley of the thunder god Thor (Þórsmörk).
We will leave the vehicle behind and start to climb up the hills, covering a lot of elevation over a short time period. The hike is pretty challenging as it is very steep for many kilometers but will give you some unforgettable hiking moments, for sure. Many who have hiked here claim that it is the most beautiful natural scenery that they have ever seen. Jagged, mossy slopes, snowcapped mountains. and hanging glacier tongues will surround us all the way up to the top!
We will climb up to the freshly formed craters, Magni and Modi, in the area where the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted in 2010. In good weather, we will see the whole area of the eruption and the beautiful panorama of the Highlands surrounding us over hundreds of kilometers.
After reaching the top, we will descend by the same path to return to Thórsmörk before driving back to Reykjavík. This tour takes 11-13 hours.
- Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging
- Duration: 11-13 hours
- Pick up & drop off: 08:00, returning around 10 pm
Golden Circle Sightseeing tour and bathing in the Secret Lagoon
After the long and challenging day hike, your next day will be much more relaxing. We will take you on a minibus tour around Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route, the Golden Circle.
We will visit the absolute must-see locations. We will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Thingvellir National Park where the tectonic plates drift apart. Here you can take a walk between the tectonic plates and admire the breathtaking natural scenery. This was also the location of the very first democratic parliament in the world, Alþingi, founded in 930 CE.
The next stop on the way is the world-famous Geysir Geothermal Area where we will see an erupting geyser. Strokkur blows hot water into the air every 5-8 minutes at a height of 20-40 meters. The area is filled with hot springs, boiling mud pots, and picturesque geothermal activity.
Next, we will visit the majestic Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall.” It is, without a doubt, one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It cascades stunningly down two steps (of 11 and 22 meters or 36 and 71 feet, respectively) before descending into a deep gorge. Standing next to Gullfoss, watching the huge quantities of water tumble with great power into the mesmerizing canyon, you will definitely find yourself speechless!
After the sightseeing tour, we will stop at the geothermal village of Fludir where we will take a relaxing bath in the beautiful Secret Lagoon, one of Iceland’s oldest geothermal pools. It is a natural bathing pool with bubbling hot springs and mini geysers all around. The water temperature is perfect for bathing. There is a small buffet with seating areas and there are walking paths leading around the pool. Showers, changing rooms, a bar, drinks, and snacks are available. This is the perfect place to enjoy bathing out in the unspoiled Icelandic nature.

Hiking in Landmannalaugar and bathing in the hot spring
Your fourth day of adventure will take place in a geothermal wonderland, Landmannalaugar. Our sturdy Superjeep will take you over the rugged terrain of the Icelandic Highlands. Landmannalaugar is famous for its beautiful scenic landscapes, colorful mountains, and stunning geothermal valleys. The site is the trailhead of the famous Laugavegur trek and offers an amazing network of hiking trails.
On this tour, we will hike the two most impressive peaks in Landmannalaugar. If time allows and the group agrees, we will hike the Brennisteinsalda-Bláhnúkur Loop, which is a 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) hike with steep climbs and breathtaking views. For those who want a less challenging walk, there are plenty of shorter versions to choose from.
Multi-colored mountains, black obsidian lava fields, steaming hot springs, and mesmerizing landscapes await us in this magnificent place. To top it off, we will end our day relaxing in a natural hot pool while enjoying the amazing scenery.
