Laki - Skaftafell trekking tour is one of the best you can take in Iceland.  The wide variety of landscapes that Vatnajökull National Park has to offer makes up the setting with highlights like  the Rauðhólar red craters, the glacial desert Fossahraun, the geothermal baths of Mið-Bergvatnsá, the Arctic birch forest of Núpstaðaskógur, Grænalón, a large glacier lagoon and of course Laki craters.
The Laki craters (Lakagígar) is one of the most powerful volcanoes in historic times. The eruption in 1783 did have a massive effect on the whole globe and changed Iceland forever. The 8-month long eruption did not only leave catastrophe and destruction - it left us with magnificent landscape and a gorgeous lava field of 600 km2. Lakagígar craters are totally unspoiled and over the years, the dormant volcano and its surroundings have been covered with moss, making the area a unique place to visit. On our 5 and 9-day trekking tour, we move through this outstanding scenery by foot and have good time to take it all in.
